On Wednesday 18 August 1909 Professor Alexander William Bickerton boarded the SS Wimmera in Sydney for Auckland. He arrived in the New Zealand port on the following Sunday, 22 August.
Professor Bickerton, whose home was in Christchurch, was returning to New Zealand on completion of a visit of several months during which he attended a special meeting of the New South Wales branch of the British Astronomical Association, delivered a number of lectures at King’s Hall, the premises of the Sydney Theosophical Society, and wrote and had published two letters in Sydney newspapers.
