sswimmera.com

This site has been created by Ralph Sanderson.

Ralph grew up in Horsham in the Wimmera District of Victoria.

He served in the Royal Australian Navy and recently retired from his position as Manager of Newspapers and Family History at the National Library of Australia.

This site evolved out of an unpublished manuscript history of the ss Wimmera. Researching the story of this ship has been a long term passion, triggered by the serendipitous discovery of an early postcard of the ship in an antique shop in Melbourne in the mid-1980s.

After many years of researching and collating information about the vessel as well as contacting or being contacted by descendants or relatives of those aboard the ship when she sank, a website was considered the best means to freely publish and disseminate her story and to share collected contemporary images of the people, places and events connected with her life and times.

Do you have a connection with the ss Wimmera?
