John James Clark and Edward James Clark were father and son. They were also Melbourne architects, who, in 1908 won the tender for the Auckland Town Hall.

Edward James Clark visited Auckland in 1908 in connection with the town hall project. He departed Sydney aboard SS Wimmera on 27 May and arrived in Auckland on 31 May. He remained in the city for two weeks before once again boarding the Wimmera on her return trip to Sydney, arriving there on 19 June.

The Auckland Town Hall was officially opened on Thursday 14 December 1911. Present at the opening were both J.J. and E.J. Clark.
