The American actress Katherine Grey was a passenger aboard the ss Wimmera in 1911.
Together with other members of the ‘Katherine Grey Co.’ under the management of J. C. Williamson, they were undertaking a tour of New Zealand and had completed a short season at Gisborne on 17 February 1911 before boarding the Wimmera the following morning, Saturday 18 February. The steamer sailed at 11.30 a.m. bound for Sydney via Tokomaru Bay and Auckland.
Following the Wimmera‘s arrival in Auckland at 10 a.m. on Sunday 19 February, Katherine Grey and her company disembarked in Auckland where they would stage three plays over 14 nights at His Majesty’s Theatre.
