Glasgow-born baritione singer, Andrew Black, was a passenger aboard the SS Wimmera on two voyages to New Zealand.
On Tuesday 24 April 1906 the Andrew Black Concert Company comprising himself and his supporting artists, violinist Ethel Sinclair, pianist Adolphe Borschke and accompanist Horace Gleeson arrived in Dunedin from Melbourne aboard the Wimmera. It was the beginning of a series of concerts.
On Saturday 25 May 1907 Andrew Black, accompanied by his company of performers, departed Sydney for Wellington aboard the Wimmera. Amongst his party on this occasion were the Polish violinist, Herr Leopold Premyslav, Rosina Buckmann and Bessie Beattie.
They arrived in Wellington on 29 May and presented their first concert the following evening at the town hall.
